Who says you can't satisfy that sweet tooth?
If any of you knew me before I started this way of eating then you know how much I LOVED dessert. Chocolate🍫. Cake🎂. Cookies🍪. Ice Cream🍦. It was just as much a staple to me as was meat. Definitely ranked higher than veggies. I needed something sweet daily. I'm talking I would sit at home and eat a spoonful of Nesquik to curb my sweet tooth. #NoShame!
So I, like many others, was concerned how I would get through not being able to have anything sweet since sugar has no place in the Low Carb/Keto world. Well thankfully I am no quitter. I will find my way around ANYTHING that stand in my way of what I want. And what I wanted was to be able to have something sweet after dinner.
Remember those links I posted in my first blog post pointing to the FB groups I was apart of? Utilize those! There are people in there who have been eating this way for years. Tons and tons of ideas.
Another helpful tool.... Pinterest! So many recipes and options. I LOVE Pinterest!!
So after searching I started playing around. At first I kept it simple. I hate it when stuff gets too complicated. One of my very first go-to sweet was Sugar Free (SF) Jello and Reddi-whip. 0 Net Carbs in SF Jello and 1 Net Carb in 2 Tablespoons of Reddi-whip. You can buy the cups of Jello or you can buy the powder and make your own. Disclaimer: I stick to the cups because regardless of how little carbs are in sugar free jello, I'm sure eating an entire pan in one sitting isn't good for anyone 😉.
Eventually I started moving onto making like a Jello-whip cream. Super easy. Ready....
2 Cups Heavy Whipping Cream (HWC)
1 Packet SF Jello, any flavor
→ Whip ingredients until stiff. Refrigerate.
Super easy. Super good in a pinch. My 6 year old and a few of my friends' kids love it. If you want the flavor to be stronger only use 1 cup of HWC.
Another easy one that has a few more ingredients for those who love chocolate ✋
2 cups HWC (It's about time you all learn the acronyms lol)
1 TBSP unsweetened cocoa powder
1 TBSP Stevia
1 tsp Vanilla extract (sometimes I don't even include it and it still tastes fine)
→Whip and refrigerate
Other than some SF Candy (which candy is never very healthy) these are my main ways to curb that sweet tooth. And in all honesty, it only takes about 3 or 4 spoonfuls before I've had my fill. So don't think I'm consuming 4 cups of flavored whipped cream lol.
Now, if you follow my Instagram or my Facebook you know that I made a concoction the other day with these ingredients:
And it did NOT disappoint. It was so good. I would call it a Peanut Butter Chocolate Mousse. Again, it literally takes 5 minutes to make. Here are the instructions:
1 Cup HWC (0 Net Carbs)
1 tsp vanilla extract (0 Net Carbs)
1 TBSP Stevia (0 Net Carbs)
→Whip ingredients together
Add in:
2 oz Cream Cheese (4 Net Carbs) (You may want to whip this before hand so it is soft and creamy)
1 TBSP Unsweetened Cocoa Powder (1 Net Carb)
2 TBSP Organic Peanut Butter (4 Net Carbs) (I used Great Value)
→Whip until all ingredients are incorporated and mixture is smooth. Refrigerate. Serve/Eat after 30 minutes to let it set.
Now... if you add everything together the whole bowl (approx 2 cups) comes to approx 9 Net Carbs. If you separate that into 1/4 Cup servings, that is 1.13 Net Carbs per serving. Not Bad! Especially since each serving also gives you 5.69g of fat, which is a bonus!
I hope you utilities these ideas. I also hope that you don't give up. There are many ways to still have the things you loved before starting this way of eating. I also hope this encourages those who haven't started but are thinking about to take the plunge. I can honestly say I haven't felt this good in years and I'm not even physically exercising yet. I keep telling myself I will but... you know.... lol.
One last tip before I leave you all this week... Get a cookie sheet, line it with some wax paper, and drop a spoonful (about the size of a quarter) of whatever you mix you decide to make, and freeze. Once frozen I put in a ziplock bag and keep in the freezer. Then I'll pop on or two quarter servings in my mouth. It helps because you can savor the taste. I won't lie, it feels a little chalky but that didn't bother me. It melts in your mouth pretty quickly.
So.... that's it....
So feel free to try new things. Make your own concoctions. and then share them with me so I can try them lol. I really hope you give these a shot. And for those who have kids, you would be surprised at how many actually love these treats.
Thank you to everyone who checked out the first post and who intends on following me. Your support means the world to me. If any of you knew how hard it was for me to put myself out there....well.... But thank you! And don't forget to leave comments and ask any questions you may have.
